Update on Dublin Ireland

Last night in Tallinn, Estonia the Irish soccer team beat Estonia 4-0 in the first leg of the Euro 2012 playoff qualifier. There were goals from Keith Andrews (13) , Jon Walters (67) and Robbie Keane (71) (81pen). Estonia had 2 players sent off for 2 yellow card offences and this helped Ireland to their largest away win for some years.
Ireland Celebrate their 2nd Gaol Last night
On Tuesday next the 2nd leg will take place in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and this should be a celebration of qualification for the European Championship for only the 2nd time in history, the previous time was Germany 1988. There should be a full house for this game.

Also yesterday Michael D Higgins received the seal of office to become the 9th president of Ireland, in an inauguration ceremony in Dublin Castle. At the ceremony yesterday were the two previous office holders, Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese and this is the first time in the history of the office of President that there has been more than 2 living Presidents past and present. Here is a short video which captures some of the ceremony from yesterday.

Now onto Dublin California. In a previous post on this site I mentioned that Dublin Ireland was twinned with San Jose, California. About 27 miles north of San Jose is a city call Dublin with a population of 46,063 people in the 2010 US census. It is estimated that the city will be home to over 75,000 people in 2030. This Dublin is named after Dublin Ireland which is 5075miles away. Dublin is situated on the 580 interstate and is home to crossroads of the 580 and 680 interstate and is known as the crossroads of the bay area.
In 1850, Michael Murray and Jeremiah Fallon came to this area from Ireland. They purchased 1,000 acres of land from Jose Amador and built homes for their families. The area began to grow as many settled in the area. By 1877 the first schoolhouse in the Amador-Livermore Valley was constructed in Dublin, along with a church, two hotels, Green's Store, a wagon and blacksmith shop, and a shoemaker's shop. The Murray Schoolhouse, Green's Store, St. Raymond's Church and the old cemetery have been preserved and are now located on Donlan Way, the area became known as Dublin and in 1982 the City incorporated.

Dublin city has it's own web site and can be found via the following url http://www.ci.dublin.ca.us/.

Dublin Ireland has DART Dublin Area Rapid Transit which is a frequent electric light rail service which runs the length of the coast of Dublin linking the north and south side and the city centre. In Dublin CA they have the BART Bay Area Rapid Transit which is a subway system that services the whole bay area of California.
